Over the past few weeks I have been ministering sermons that have either been evangelistic in nature or were delivered in an attempt to compel the Christian believer to use every opportunity to share their faith. I believed that people would be extremely foolish to suggest they they knew that this year would present the types of challenges that our nation and global community has faced. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic countries all over the world have experienced financial loss as well as the loss of hundreds of thousands of people dying as a result of the virus.
As I am writing this article, here in the United Stated, we are approaching two hundred thousand deaths as a result of the this virus. These death have no doubt at some point has caused of to think about our own mortality. The virus does not care about one’s wealth, title, age, or notoriety. In addition to those things, I pray that we all have been thinking about were we, our family, and our friends will spend eternity if we were to die today. We must have a heart for the lost.
Why We Should Be Concerned About Where We Spend Eternity
One of the main things that I believe that God wanted me to relay is that many of those that died did not know the Lord as their person Lord and Savior. Of course, there were some that did know the Lord, and based on 2 Corinthians 5:8 “to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”, we believe they are with the Lord. However, for those that did not accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, just as Jesus spoke of the Rich man who died in Luke 16:23, in hell did they lift up their eyes.
It is important that we understand that Heaven and Hell are real definite places. We can not allow ourselves to believe the lie that Hell is not a real place. Scripture tells us that Hell is a place of torment, is one where people are conscious to what is happening to them, and it is a place of eternal punishment.
Many suggest that a loving God would not send anyone to Hell. It is important to understand that according to 2 Peter 3:9 that it is not God’s will that any should perish, but that we all come to repentance. It is for this reason that God sent his son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world. However, while this is the case, we must accept the great act of Love that Jesus did when he died on the cross believing that no only did he die for our sins but that he also rose from the dead, and confess that he is our Lord and Savior.
Our Responsibility As Christians
As Christians believers we have a responsibility to share our faith. One of the things that I believe that we should really ask ourselves is whether or not we truly have a heart for the lost. I pray that we take time to put things into perspective and really understand what is truly at stake.
I have heard multiple times as I am watching the various news outlets and they all say something to the effect of that in this year 2020, the stakes of this upcoming election are high. While this may be true from a political stand point, we as Christians must also remember that there is something more important than the U.S. election and not get caught up in the vitriol and polarizing statements we hear concerning what is taking place in our country’s politics.
We must remember that the souls of those who do not know God are extremely important and that we must continue to pray for the lost and take every opportunity to share our faith as we point people to Christ.
